How it's worked out
Pension contributions and Gift Aid donations reduce your adjusted net income, which can also restore some of your Personal Allowance if you're in the taper band between £100,000 and £125,140. This calculator shows the result of that; for adjusted net income on its own, see the Adjusted Net Income Calculator, or for the Personal Allowance taper on its own, see the Personal Allowance Calculator. Figures use published 2026/27 thresholds and are estimates for general guidance only.
How taxable income is worked out
Start with your gross income, subtract allowable deductions like pension contributions and Gift Aid donations to get your adjusted net income, then subtract your Personal Allowance - which may itself be reduced if that adjusted net income is above £100,000. What's left is your taxable income, the figure Income Tax is actually charged on.
To see the Personal Allowance taper on its own, try the Personal Allowance Calculator, or run the resulting figure through the Income Tax Calculator.
