Why the amount you keep varies
The Child Benefit itself is fixed at £44.95 a week for 2 children. The High Income Child Benefit Charge is what changes with income: it takes back 1% of the year's payment for every £200 of adjusted net income above £60,000, so it reaches 100% at £80,000. It is assessed on the higher earner alone, and paid through their Self Assessment or tax code.
