How this calculator works

This calculator applies UK PAYE rules: your Personal Allowance is deducted from your gross salary first, then the remaining taxable income is charged Income Tax at the rates for your region. National Insurance is calculated separately, using its own threshold. If you add a pension contribution, it's modelled as salary sacrifice, meaning it reduces your pay before both Income Tax and National Insurance are worked out. That matches how most workplace pension schemes operate, though relief-at-source schemes work slightly differently.

Daily and hourly figures assume a standard 5-day, 37.5-hour working week. Your actual daily or hourly rate will differ if you work different hours.
